Aug 7, 2019

A major part of Fengxian District has been included in the new branch of Shanghai free trade zone in Lingang, which was unveiled on Tuesday as a result of further all-round opening-up demanded by President Xi Jinping during the China International Import Expo held last November.

Located in the southeastern part of Shanghai, Lingang sits at the confluence of the Hangzhou Bay and the Yangtze River.

It now consists of five sections namely main urban area, coordinated development, smart ecological area, ocean sci-tech area and smart manufacturing area, the last of which overlaps with Fengxian.

Covering 315 square kilometers, Lingang has been striving to promote industrial development, infrastructure and city construction, ecological protection and industry and city integration.

It aims to establish a mature and free trade system so as to build its core competition and innovation strength to attract world leading enterprises by 2025.

According to the new plan, construction will start with Nanhui New City, Lesser Yangshan Island and the Lingang equipment industrial zone, covering 119.52 square kilometers of Lingang free trade zone.
