Jan 24, 2018

A Peking Opera costume collection donation ceremony was held last week at Wanrong Peking Opera Costumes Gallery.

More than 600 pieces of valuable costumes, previously belonged to Peking Opera artist and costume designer Bao Wanrong and his wife, were given to Fengxian Haiwan Tourism Management Committee.

The collection contains items from Peking Opera masters Mei Lanfang, Xun Huisheng and Huang Guiqiu and many were made by Bao Wanrong and his wife.

The donation aims to promote and publicize the cultural heritage of Peking Opera, said Ma Li, curator of the gallery.

Bao learned from many teachers including Huang Guiqiu. In 2013 he was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chinese Society for Theatre Performance. In 2017 he passed away in Shanghai at the age of 90.
