City's first BRT hits the road in Fengxian today

Apr 20, 2018

Shanghai's first BRT running from Fengxian Nanqiao Bus Station to Shendu Highway started operation today.

Set to serve residents in the Fengxian New City, the buses dispatch at an interval of five to eight minutes in rush hours and eight to 15 minutes in off-peak period.

Its first and last buses in a day also fit well with the time schedule of Line 8 for transit at Shendu Highway Station.

With its designated lane, the BRT finishes a 20-kilometer trip in about 45 minutes, far shorter than common bus lines.

The carriage interior design is based on the passengers' experience. Several USB charging sockets have been installed to meet the commuters' needs. Real-time cameras and volatile gas alarms are equipped to guarantee safety on the bus.

Plenty of space has been spared to install seats for physically-challenged people.

Boarding height for the bus is 35 centimeters and drivers have been trained to park within proper distance from the platform so as to facilitate passengers, especially old people, to easily get on and off.

The platform has been built like one at the railway station and passengers need to swipe their transportation card to take the BRT.
