Fengxian opens a library in a transformed train in Haiwan Town

Sep 3, 2018

A library set within a locomotive at the City Square of Haiwan Town in Fengxian opens to the public this week.

The reading express was transformed from an actual train and now boasts a floor space of 150 square meters, storing 5,000 books.

It opens from 8:30am to 4:30pm and provides different reading sections in different compartments. A family reading zone for children and their parents is located at the train rear.

Visitors can swipe their ID cards to enter the library. They can also use the self-service equipment to borrow and return books as the library's network is connected with other city public libraries.

The introduction of Big Data will help the staff at the library to arrange its book collection according to readers' need.

Apart from promoting reading, the locomotive-styled library also tries to uphold local culture with more events to unfold in the future.
