Construction of a major maternity hospital kicks off in Fengxian District today

Construction of the International Peace Maternity & Child Health Hospital of China Welfare Institute (IPMCH) Fengxian branch kicked off today.

The project, set up in 2017 and designated as one of Shanghai's major construction projects in 2018, covers an area of 67,000 square meters and is set to be put into use in 2021.

It will have a total of 500 beds.

With a general design resembling a boat, it implies "a boat of life." 

"Our new hospital will combine scientific research and medical service and set to be exemplary in gynecology, obstetrics, reproductive medicine and pediatrics," said Huang Hefeng, head of IPMCH.

Centers will be established aiming to tackle medical challenges on fertility and genetic diseases as well as to train medical talents in the field.
